Earwax isn't dirt. It's a natural mix of oils and skin cells that keeps the ear canal moisturised and traps dust before it travels too far in.
Normally the skin of the ear canal slowly moves outward, carrying old wax with it. For some people that conveyor belt doesn't keep up — narrow or hairy ear canals, hearing aids, earbuds and ear plugs can all hold wax in place.
When wax packs together, you might notice muffled hearing, a blocked or full feeling, itching or a faint ringing. That's usually the point where gentle removal helps.
Think your ears need a hand?
